I Can't Believe the Day is Almost Here ...

... when there will be a Chipotle on the route home from work.

So the 5pm phone call that goes like this:
Jeff "Anything you want me to pick up on the way home?"
will at last be answered with "CHIPOTLE!"
And he'll only be home a few minutes later.

Oh, the simple (but life-changing) pleasures :)

New Year's Polar Bear Swim

On New Year's Day we spent the afternoon in Lodi at Granny and Papa's house. Uncle Jim and Aunt Crystal and their three little girls were in town to visit. Hooray! We love to see cousins! They told us to bring our swimming suits because they were heating the hot tub on that 48 degree afternoon.

I decided to challenge the kids to a New Year's Day Polar Bear Swim, and they took the challenge (with the promise of a $5 reward)! Jeff went first into the freezing pool. Ethan was brave and plunged in off the diving board, coming up with a very shocked and slightly panicked look on his face. Ben got in about knee deep. Eliza? She's the crazy one. She got in and out about 10 times, going straight from the hot tub to the cold pool and back again over and over. I guess we can be confident now in the condition of her heart! I, of course, was responsible for the camera, so I couldn't get in :)

Here's the video, for you die-hard Smith fans out there. My kids like to watch it over and over again, of course. I didn't take the time to do any editing, so it's the raw footage here:

And as a side note, I really don't bribe my kids with $ that often, though it may seem so to our Smith relatives. We pay them to pick up little pieces of garbage in our front yard, and once in a while to find Blake's pacifiers in the house/van, but that's really about it on a regular basis. There's just once in a while on special occasions (like for formal family pictures) where we offer some monetary incentives.

As for me, I don't think you could have paid me enough to jump in that freezing pool!
