Another September is come and gone. Wow.
We've mostly been adjusting to the school schedule. I intentionally kept the afterschool schedule light and we all seem to love it. The kids get a bit of downtime at home and then get to work on homework and chores and then dinner. We often have commitments in the evening, but those go a lot better when we've had an at-home afternoon.
Some afternoons we are out-and-about, like on Fridays for Running Club. Ben and Eliza are participating in this incredibly simple and successful activity. We meet up with other families at a nearby park, the kids grab their punch cards and start running. Each lap is 1/4 mile and gets one punch. That's it! I didn't make any promises to the kids about what a full card would earn them, so they aren't asking. They are just running! They've completed their 5 mile punch cards and are working on their 10 mile cards.
Ben and Ethan are both playing VIP soccer - practice Weds nights and games on Saturday mornings. We love the schedule, love that Eliza can practice with Ben's team, love that both boys play at the same fields, and love that they each feel so successful.
Jeff has a potential job offer coming up ... should be interesting.
We had a thrown together yard sale one Saturday morning - made a few hundred dollars and said a fond goodbye to some outgrown baby items - like the wood Dutalier glider that we bought when Ethan was born. I was surprised by the surge of sentimentality that swept me as the new owner walked away with that well-loved rocker. Sigh ...
And Ben has mastered the Rubik's Cube! Over and over and over again!
The kids also participated in the annual Primary Program at church. It is a much anticipated day for the congregation because it is so entertaining to have all the children in the ward present the content for the Sunday Sacrament service, based on the topics they've studied over the course of the year in Primary. My children definitely did not disappoint. Ethan, now feeling too old for Primary, grimaced his way through the songs. But he was clear and articulate as he recited the fourth Article of Faith at the podium. Ben sang most of the songs in a fidgety way. Then when it came time for his part at the microphone, he swiped a Skittle bribe out of his teacher's hand as he walked up (it was supposed to be for after he said his part). So he got to the microphone and emphatically chewed his (very chewy) Skittle. When it was good and swallowed, he said his part perfectly! Eliza sang and sang with GUSTO and threw a few elbows to make sure that the adjacent children did not infringe on her space.
Now on to October!
